Yağcı Bedir

ABOUT ROOM

The group composed of several tribes called Yaycıbedir(li) came from the Eastern Anatolia and settled to the Western region. The carpets that this tribe has woven are known as yaycı bedir(li).

The semi-nomadic communities formed a part of the Ottoman community. Their names have been recorded to the documents mostly according to the geographical region where they settled or according to the economic activity of the community or according to the name of the leader of the tribe.

As the semi-nomadic community mentioned in the Yağcıbedir carpet had expertise in making bow and as they paid their taxes with the bow and arrow, the word of “yaycı” (bow maker) in the first name of the tribe makes a reference to the product that this group has produced economically. The second term Bedir(li) gives the name of the chairman of the community. Due to the misreading, the yaycıbedir has been transferred to the today as yağcıbedir. In the Yağcıbedir room, the community weaving the carpet has been inspired rather than the carpet and the whole room has been designed as appropriate to the bow motif.
